Designing Effective Library Assignments: Home

Are your students ready to use the library?

Sure, maybe they know where it is, and how to check out a book.  At Niagara County Community College, library services go far beyond that.

We offer practical  assistance to our students, which will help them master information, research, critical thinking, and problem solving  skills that will enrich every aspect of their lives.  We have study rooms, laptops, Kindles, and dvds and cds for them to check out of the library.  We provide access to the entire SUNY system's libraries, and to streaming video and online databases.  When our library is open, we always have a professional librarian with a Master of Library Science Degree  to help our students.   When we are not open, our participation in  the Ask Us 24/7 chat line provides a librarian to help them.

Your students have a wealth of resources and services at their fingertips--they just don't know it!

Let us help.  We offer practical Library Instruction to individuals or groups upon request by any faculty member.

Review the information contained in this guide to learn what we can do--and then contact us.

Let us help your students learn how to truly use the Henrietta G. Lewis Library for their coursework now, and for lifelong learning when they leave us.

What Students Say About Research

In addition, check out these 12 adjectives students commonly use to describe how they feel about research assignments:

     fear     angst     tired     dread
excited     anxious     annoyed     stressed
disgusted     intrigued     confused     overwhelmed

Notice only 2 of these are remotely positive.  We want to change how students feel about library research!
