Welcome

The Lewis Library is committed to providing all students, faculty and staff equitable access to library resources and services. The library provides a range of services and tools for individuals who may require assistance or assistive tools in order to access and use those resources and services.

Physical Accessibility in the Lewis Library

The Lewis Library entrance is closest to parking lot 2 which has handicapped parking spaces. There is also handicapped parking in lots 1, 3, 6, and 7.

The entrance to the Learning Commons includes accessible doors. 

There is an elevator to access the second floor of the Learning Commons just outside of the Lewis Library entrance

There is an elevator within the Library that provides upward access from the first floor to fourth floor. You must exit on the second floor though. There is an elevator nearby in the Learning Commons that exits on the first floor. 

Accessible restrooms are available on the second floor of the Lewis Library. 

Retrieving Materials: library staff will pull materials for students when the materials are not physically accessible for any reason-- if material is too high or too low on shelf, or call numbers are difficult to see. 

Study Spaces: The Lewis Library provides quiet study rooms for use by all students. These rooms may be used by students with assistive technology or learning aides. 

Wheelchair-accessible study carrels and tables are available throughout the Library. 

Assistive Technologies

  • Computers with the following software are located on the 2nd floor:
    • Read & Write Gold
    • ABBY Fine Reader
    • JAWS
  • Book scanner (2nd floor)
  • Flatbed scanner (2nd floor)
  • CCTV Text Magnifier (coming soon!)
  • Text-to-speech tools within databases
  • Closed captioning within film databases 
  • C-Pen Reader Pen (available for loan from the circulation desk on the 2nd floor)
  • Alternative formats such as large print, braille, or audiobook may be available through interlibrary loan or acquisition. 

Accessible Library Services

Reference Assistance: Librarians are available to assist all users with their research needs. Appointments are appreciated and can be made via phone at 716-614-6786 or email refdesk@niagaracc.suny.edu.

Interlibrary Loan: Library staff will try to locate and borrow large print editions of books and journal articles or captioned media materials for library patrons. To request materials, please ask a Librarian.
