Instructions for locating scholarly/peer reviewed articles

  1. From the College’s main page, click "Academics" at the top and locate the Library link in the drop down menu

  1. On the Library’s homepage, click the Databases tab, and the subject link.

  1. Depending on the topic you have selected for your project, click one of the subject tabs to start.  You may return to this master list and access another database if you are not finding the kinds of articles you want in the database you chose. If you are working from off campus, you will be asked for your T-Wolves username and password before you can access the database.

  1. On the main screen of the database, enter your main subject word or phrase. **Keep in mind that your word or phrase may not be the one used by the professionals creating the database, so if your search comes up empty, try to think of another word or phrase that might be used in the index. Be flexible! You may leave the search box as is, or use the drop down to choose SUBJECT to make your search more on target. If your topic yields too many result, consider adding a second search term in another box, or narrowing the dates for your results by using the date bar on the left side of the screen.

  1. Before you send the search **CLICK THE BOXES THAT SAY FULL TEXT AND PEER REVIEWED** This is what determines that the articles you find will be scholarly in nature!!!

  1. When you find an article from the list, click on the title and look on the right for the word “Cite”. From the dropdown, choose MLA as your preferred citation format. Be sure you copy this citation to include with your assignment. You must double check the citation to be sure it’s in correct MLA form. Use OWL or Noodle Tools from the library’s help page.

  1. Several formats of full text of the article are usually available for you to choose. At this point you can print the article, save it to your computer or flash, put it in a folder in the database for later access or export/email it. Follow the simple instructions to create a login for a Folder in the database if that is the option you choose, and it will remain there for future use.
