Faculty and Staff Services: Circulation Services

A guide about the services provided by the Lewis Library to SUNY Niagara Faculty and Staff.

Circulation Services Overview

Our Circulation Department provides services allowing you to checkout resources from our SUNY Niagara collections, other SUNY Libraries, and libraries outside of our SUNY Network. The Circulation Department is also the host location for Course Reserves.

Please see the information below; for placing course reserves for your students, or requesting access to materials through resource sharing and interlibrary loan. Whenever you're at the library ready to checkout resources, please bring your campus ID with you.

Course Reserves

The Lewis Library encourages you to place textbooks or additional study material in the library on reserve for the benefit of your students.

You may place your personal copies or library resources on reserve. Course reserves are kept behind the Circulation Desk, alphabetical by course number. Whenever you let your students know about materials you have placed on course reserves with us, they can stop at our Circulation Desk and access the material(s). There are a few reserve items that may circulate outside the library overnight, or for longer periods of time. It is up to the discretion of each individual faculty or staff member; whether or not the reserve items may circulate, and for how long.

Resource Sharing

We provide access to the entire SUNY system's libraries, and to streaming video and online databases! Through resource sharing, you can request access to other SUNY colleges materials. Articles often arrive to your email within the same day. Books and physical items will often arrive at the library, within a week.

Course Reserves Guidelines

The Course Reserves service allows faculty to place high demand class related materials on reserve with restricted loan periods. These materials may include:

  • Textbooks and other course-related books
  • Media such as DVDs
  • Documents such as articles, sample exams, readings, lecture notes, etc.

All reserve items are available at the Circulation Desk.

Interlibrary Loan

Interlibrary Loan is a service we provide, whenever SUNY institutions do not have the resources you are looking for. We can often locate the book outside of the SUNY Network for you.
