The Lewis Library's technical services staff acquires, processes, and organizes the collections both physical and digital. This includes acquisitions, cataloging, database management, and other tasks ensuring the library's resources are organized, discoverable, and accessible. These services are crucial for providing students and faculty with the materials they need for learning and research.

The Library uses the Library of Congress Classification System to enter items into our catalog and determine the organization of items on the library shelves. Books are thus categorized into shelving units using an alphanumeric system; each book is assigned its call number based on the main subject(s) of the book. In the Lewis Library at SUNY Niagara, books with a call number beginning with A-H are on the 3rd floor of our library; books with a call number starting with J-Z are on the 4th floor.
